2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland Special Edition First Drive Review

Jeep helps guide its consumers toward the sweet spot. The latest iteration of the Wagoneer is the most off-road capable yet.

The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland is a limited-edition seven-passenger machine, but it could have essentially been spec’ed before the package had a name. It’s basically a blacked-out and well-optioned Wagoneer Series II with the Advanced Terrain Group and Heavy-Duty Advanced Tow Package with all-terrain tires. But, surprisingly, zero “Overland” badging can be found inside or out on this full-size SUV.

I got behind the wheel of the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland Special Edition at the 2025 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. I only got a short time with it, and only off-road, but I’ve spent time in a similarly equipped Jeep Wagoneer in the past, on and off-pavement.

In short: The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland Special Edition has a name as big as the vehicle it represents. It’s a vehicle that checks all the right boxes and has onboard hardware and software to be a great adventure companion. It’s also very competitively priced and quite capable off-pavement.

What Is the Wagoneer Overland Package?

“The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland Special Edition embodies an authentic, go-anywhere Jeep brand 4×4 experience,” said Bob Broderdorf, Chief Executive Officer, Jeep brand. “From active families to passionate overlanders, we’ve cleverly packaged capability features and content to deliver a full-size SUV that inspires adventure and confidence on every journey, as only a Jeep vehicle can.”

On offer on this most off-road-capable Wagoneer is the Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system with an Electronic Limited Slip Differential (ELSD) and a two-speed transfer case (with a 48:1 crawl ratio). It also has 32-inch all-terrain tires wrapped around 20-inch aluminum wheels. The Quadra-Lift Air Suspension is also standard on the Wagoneer Overland, enabling up to 10.0 inches of ground clearance.

Three steel skid plates, which protect the front axle, transfer case, and fuel tank, along with tow hooks at each of the vehicle, let you know that it’s ready to be put to work off-road. Also, drive modes include a Rock Mode, alongside Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand/Mud settings.

The vehicle also features Selec-Speed Control (essentially low-speed off-road cruise control), a 360 Surround View Camera, and a 10,000-pound tow capacity with an integrated trailer brake controller.

Beyond capability features, it is loaded with uniquely packaged content and styling, including a black painted roof (first time on Wagoneer trim). Black exterior highlights include the lower fascia, wheel flares, headlamps, grille, and badging.

Roof rack crossbars and a massive three-pane panoramic sunroof are also part of the package.

Inside it gets Nappa leather seats and rubber floor mats. The driver gets additional safety features, like Side Distance Warning as well as Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist.

Quick Review: 2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland Special Edition

While I didn’t spend enough time in this special edition to form all the opinions, I did crawl around it enough and put it to the test off-road to get some first impressions to share.

It has plenty of power, delivered through a smooth transmission. Steering is vague, but responsive. While the throttle is a bit laggy, the brakes are firm and progressive through the pedal stroke.

The air suspension is super handy off-road, but in the two tallest settings is quite firm — which creates a lot of body roll when going over rough terrain.

Skid plates, tow hooks, and all-terrain tires are welcome for off-pavement excursions. The sidestep running boards aren’t great for off-road, but they are very convenient and are tucked up neatly on the body — generally staying out of the way of moderate off-road obstacles.

Included roof rack crossbars (not installed on my test vehicle) and an included HD tow package mean this big SUV is ready to haul all the bulky adventure gear your heart desires.

The dark accents inside and out make for a stealthy-looking big SUV. And, there isn’t an “Overland” badge or logo in sight, which is both kinda cool and kinda disappointing for this special edition machine.

Inside the cabin, it’s quiet, and the optional McIntosh sound system my test vehicle was equipped with is truly outstanding. The seats should be comfortable for a wide range of body types and are comfortable in all three rows. At 6’3″, I rode in all rows and was duly impressed with the space. This is a big vehicle with loads of room for friends and adventure gear.

Comfort and luxury are top of mind in the Wagoneer, and the Overland Special Edition doesn’t change that, but does give it more off-road chops.

2025 Jeep Wagoneer: Standard Features

All 2025 Jeep Wagoneers come standard with three-row seating, three-zone climate control, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5, a wireless charging pad, a hands-free power liftgate, and the Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6 engine, delivering 420 horsepower.

This full-size SUV also comes with in-vehicle digital connectivity that includes; three years of app-based Jeep Connect services (remote engine start, door lock, etc.), 10 years of Safety and Security Package access (including Stolen Vehicle Assistance and Recall Alert), and 5 years of Vehicle Performance Package access (including Vehicle Health Reports). The big SUV also has over-the-air (OTA) update capability, which allows for continuous software evolution.

For 2025, all Wagoneer 4×4 models have Jeep Off-Road Pages+ with Adventure Guides for the first time. This app, built into the infotainment system, delivers 200+ off-road trail guides — including Jeep Badge of Honor trails — downloadable maps, difficulty ratings, and more. A 2-year trial subscription to this app comes with the purchase of the vehicle.

These full-size SUVs also come standard with a full suite of security features. These include; Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Path Detection, 360° Surround View Camera System, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Active Lane Management System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and more.

2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland Special Edition: Price & Availability

Just 2,000 units of this special edition Wagoneer will be made for model year 2025. They are available to order now at Jeep dealers nationwide.

The Overland Special Edition package adds $5,795 to the price of the vehicle. That makes the starting price of the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland $74,835 (including $2,095 destination charge). That price is a few hundred dollars less than trying to build a comparably equipped Wagoneer, and you get better tires and looks — I prefer the dark accents to chrome.
