2027 Subaru Getaway EV, Forester Wilderness Hybrid Revealed

Subaru just revealed two eco-friendly SUVs, including its most powerful vehicle ever. The 2027 Subaru Getaway is a brand-new three-row electric vehicle that makes 420 horsepower. The Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid brings the fuel-sipping hybrid system to the Wilderness off-road model for the very first time.
2027 Getaway Is the Most Powerful Subaru Yet
The 2027 Subaru Getaway is the company’s latest EV, bringing the lineup to four. It will be the longest, with room for three rows of seats, but also the most powerful.
Two electric motors boost its output to 420 horsepower. Subaru is launching it with a 95.8kWh battery capable of more than 300 miles on a charge. Sometime next year, a smaller 77kWh battery model will go on sale, but Subaru didn’t have a range figure for the more affordable, shorter-range version.
The Getaway will hold 45.6 cubic feet of stuff with the rear seats folded, or 15.9 with them in place. Subaru claims room for 6-footers in all three rows, making it larger inside than the Ascent. It also has 8.3 inches of ground clearance, can tow 3,500 pounds, and will charge at 150 kW, getting it from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
Subaru was short on details surrounding this announcement, but if you want to learn more, just look to the new Toyota Highlander. Like Subaru’s other three EVs, the Getaway shares much of its bones with that Toyota model.
Wilderness Goes Hybrid, But Loses a Spare
The 2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness hybrid is the same Wilderness we already know, but now with the Forester’s hybrid system and up to 25% better fuel economy. That’s from a special boxer four-cylinder shared with the non-Wilderness hybrid model, with electric motors to make 194 horsepower.
Just like the standard Wilderness, the hybrid gets an extra half-inch of ground clearance, bringing it up to 9.3 inches. It has longer springs and longer-travel shocks, along with improved approach, departure, and breakover angles from the chunkier Wilderness bumpers.
The hybrid will hold 69 cubic feet of stuff in the back, the same as the standard model. It also gets the same 800-pound static load capacity roof rack. Subaru has added more sound-absorbing materials and structural adhesive to make this off-roader a little quieter.
Subaru includes all-terrain tires just like on the standard Wilderness, but this hybrid is missing one thing. There is no full-sized spare like other Wilderness models. In fact, there is no spare at all — something to keep in mind before you venture too far into the unknown.
2027 Subaru Getaway, Forester Wilderness Hybrid Arrive Later This Year
There was no pricing announcement for either the 2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness hybrid or the 2027 Subaru Getaway. Both go on sale later this year, though, so expect to see the numbers in the fall. The Getaway joins the Uncharted, Solterra, and Trailseeker in Subaru’s growing stable of EVs.
