Wade for Waterfowl in Arkansas Rice Fields

Trudge through knee-deep, boot-sucking mud, and frigid water before dawn and haul decoys across slick levees in unpredictable Delta weather — all for the chance to bag mallards, wood duck, coot, merganser, geese, and more. If this sounds like your idea of a good time, welcome to Stuttgart, Arkansas.

Duck hunting in the flooded rice fields of Arkansas is a classic waterfowl hunting experience. Each winter, tens of thousands of migratory birds, including mallards, teal, and many varieties of geese, pour into shallow, flooded fields left over from the rice harvest.

As part of the Arkansas Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Enhancement (WRICE) program, rice farmers are incentivized to flood their fields at the end of the growing season to expand the habitat available to these migrating waterfowl. This program offers limited permits for hunters to access these private lands when they transition to prime hunting grounds from late fall to early winter.

Details

  • Basecamp: Public and private land surrounding Stuttgart, Arkansas
  • Season: Select dates from late fall to late January; based on species
  • Land Management: Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and private land owners through the WRICE program
  • Permits: Arkansas hunting license, state and federal duck stamps, HIP registration, WRICE special permits (private land use), and WMA Waterfowl Hunting Permits (non-residents)

With two powerful engine options, the Ram 2500 Rebel is built for hunters chasing birds where the roads end. Choose from a 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel and the legendary 6.4L HEMI® V8. Paired with the Ram brand’s upgraded TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic transmission, both engines are capable of muscling through flooded fields and muddy levees with ease while hauling decoys, boats, and blinds thanks to up to 19,890 pounds of max diesel towing and 3,300-pound max diesel payload1.

Bag Turkey in West Virginia

In the heart of Appalachia, West Virginia’s rolling mountains, deep hollows, high ridges, and mixed hardwood forests create a complex habitat for wild turkeys. This unique terrain, some of the steepest and most diverse in the eastern U.S., will test your fitness, fieldcraft, and patience.

Drive down rugged access roads to reach remote trailheads across statewide Wilderness Management Areas (WMA). Then, set out on foot to hike along rocky slopes and through thick understory to locate roosts, travel routes, feeding zones, and the prized gobblers you’re after.

Details

  • Basecamp: Towns and state parks across the state with hike-in access to Wildlife Management Areas
  • Season: Mid-April to late May statewide; fall season available in mid-October to mid-November in select counties
  • Land Management: West Virginia Division of Natural Resources
  • Permits: West Virginia hunting license

Pursue Elk Herds in New Mexico

Trek into vast tracts of wild country on one of the most physically demanding and memorable big-game pursuits in the contiguous U.S. Elk herds in New Mexico range from high alpine meadows to rugged volcanic mesas and piñon-juniper canyons.

The terrain is steep, rocky, and often at 7,000–10,000 feet, where thin air and sudden weather shifts add to the challenge. Long hikes before dawn, heavy pack-outs, and wary elk that move miles between water and feed make this hunt a true test of stamina and skill.

Details

  • Basecamp: Gila, Lincoln, or Carson National Forests
  • Season: Early September through early winter; exact dates vary by weapon type
  • Land Management: New Mexico Department of Game and Fish
  • Permits: New Mexico hunting license (via big game draw system), habitat stamp, and access validation

Go wherever the game goes with the 2025 Ram 2500 Power Wagon. This trim has everything you need to track down elk herds over a massive range in unforgiving territory. From the rear locking differential and Class-Exclusive electronic locking front differential and electronic front sway bar disconnect2 to Bilstein Gas-Charged Monotube Shocks and an available WARN ZEON-12 Winch, the heavy-duty Power Wagon gets hunters where they are going and then some.

Hunt Himalayan Snowcock in Nevada

Deep in Nevada’s Ruby Mountains lies one of the most challenging and unique upland hunts in North America: the pursuit of the Himalayan snowcock. Accessing snowcock country requires long hikes or multiday backcountry treks through rugged, often snow-dusted terrain.

The birds live above 9,000 feet — often closer to 11,000 — making the hunt as much a test of endurance and mountaineering skill as marksmanship. Thin air, unpredictable weather, loose scree, and sheer verticality of the Ruby Mountains add to the challenge.

Wondering how these non-native birds found their way to the Nevada upland? Originally introduced from Pakistan in the 1960s, these high-altitude birds have established a thriving population in the Rubies, where the steep granite peaks, sheer cliffs, and alpine basins mimic their native Himalayan habitat.

Because Nevada is the only state in the U.S. where these birds thrive, the hunt for this rare, and almost mythical, bird is a true bucket-list adventure for upland hunters seeking a test unlike any other.

Details

  • Basecamp: Ruby Mountains
  • Season: September 1 through November 30
  • Land Management: Nevada Department of Wildlife
  • Permits: Nevada hunting license with a free-use snowcock permit

When off-road prowess is a must, the 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel delivers. This trim comes outfitted with 33-inch off-road tires, skid plates, and Bilstein Gas-Charged Monotube Shocks for the ultimate ease of backcountry travel. Charge over rough terrain, snow, or mud with the trusted traction and rugged capability this heavy-duty truck is known for.

Go After Javelina in Texas

For a unique hunting experience on distinctly Southwestern terrain, head to Texas. There, thorny mesquite flats, rocky ridges, and cactus-filled draws create the perfect desert home for javelina — and a landscape that will test a hunter’s patience, footing, and glassing skills.

Similar to wild boar, but with a smaller stature, javelina travel in herds through the arid canyons. Hunters who are up for long days stalking game in open country will be rewarded with close encounters and the thrill of earning every opportunity for a successful hunt.

Details

  • Basecamp: Trans-Pecos region
  • Season: October through February in the northern zone; September through August in the southern zone
  • Land Management: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
  • Permits: Texas hunting license and an annual public hunting license for hunting on public lands
