Snowboarding the ‘Peak of Evil’: Patagonia Athletes Shred Biggest Line of Their Lives in India

When Nick Russell and Jerry Mark heard Hillary Nelson recount the story of making her first descent on India’s Papsura (aka the Peak of Evil), they were immediately intrigued. The way it was described to them, it didn’t sound like just another ski line. It sounded like a real mountaineering challenge — and the two snowboarders wanted their shot at it.

In 2024, the Patagonia athletes traveled to the Indian Himalayas to climb and snowboard the 21,165-foot mountain. They both understood the risks involved and spent months planning their routes. The climb took all of their mountaineering skills, and the descent was one of the biggest lines of their lives.

Patagonia’s upcoming film Papsura: Peak of Evil follows their journey and documents their successful snowboard adventure on one of the planet’s tallest and most remote peaks. The film is about to go on tour, with premieres starting on December 17 in Tahoe City, Calif. For more tour dates and information, check out the film’s Patagonia webpage.
