3 people killed when 8 shot at a gathering in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood
Eight people were shot, three fatally, Monday afternoon during a “social gathering” at a residence in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood, a police official said.
At least three people were hospitalized in critical condition, with an additional victim stabilized at a medical facility, Chicago Fire Department officials told NBC Chicago.
Chicago Police Chief of Patrol John Hein said that the shooting happened while a social gathering was taking place. Police were called about a person shot at a residence shortly after 2 p.m., he said.
The victims, four men and four women, are 20 to 35 years old, Hein said. All of the deceased were men, Hein said.
Hein said two of the victims were taken to medical facilities in private vehicles and the rest went by city ambulances.
A motive for the violence and how it unfolded was unclear. No information about a suspect or suspects was available. Hein said officers have been called to the location in the past.
The community is known for its bungalows, which are more than a century old, as well as for its diversity.
