Mobile Basecamp and Workstation for Mountain Bikers: Escapod Releases the TOPO 2 MTB Trailer

Mountain bikers looking for an elevated camping experience closer to where they ride now have a teardrop trailer designed to suit their needs.

Escapod makes several customizable trailers with breezy side doors, a covered galley outfitted with utensils and a sink, and a cozy cabin. Building off that, the brand now offers a base model aimed at mountain bikers.

Escapod builds the TOPO2 MTB trailer for off-road use, with 21 inches of ground clearance and the brand’s Freeride Suspension, which is important when you want your basecamp closer to the trailhead — or just the middle of nowhere.

A Mobile Mountain Biking Basecamp

As a basecamp, the trailer offers a place to cook a meal, rest, and rinse off before climbing into the insulated trailer to sleep in the cabin, where heat or open-air ventilation are both options.

The exterior of the Escapod TOPO2 MTB Trailer includes a rounded solar panel on top of the galley hatch and an additional space for storage in the front, just behind the front hitch. That powers the cabin’s dimmable LED lighting, charging ports, and exterior spotlights (including a red-light option above the galley hatch).

Stocked up, the trailer can hold 21 gallons of water, enough for rinsing off cookware, bikes, and yourself over a weekend of two-wheeled fun. It runs forced-air heat off a standard propane tank for warmth and can heat water for the shower hose, too.

What Makes It MTB?

To create the TOPO2 MTB, Escapod added a Kuat Piston ION e-bike rack that tilts down or swings out from the back of the trailer, a bike stand, and a set of bike tools integrated into the rear kitchen space storage.

Engineered to withstand RV travel, the Kuat e-bike rack can hold two 80-pound e-bikes. It fits into Escapod’s Switchback Hitch, which is integrated into the trailer’s frame and body. The swing-away design offers access to the galley even when bikes are on the rack. It has three locking positions to stay in place off-road.

The Feedback Sports Team Edition Tool Kit includes 26 of the most-used tools for bike repair and maintenance.

Between the trailer and bike rack is a bull bar with an integrated Feedback Sports Mechanic Clamp Head. The bar also has an accessory plate with a camp water jug. The clamp head provides a stable option for lubing a chain or performing trip-saving repairs.

Carry-over features from other editions, like the pull-out table and shower, also take on new duties. Obviously, the table works as a dining space away from the kitchen or an additional workspace. And the shower, also to the side, delivers hot water via the trailer’s heating system for showering. It also sprays cold water to rinse off dirty bikes.

Escapod TOPO2 MTB Interior

Escapod builds the mountain bike-specific camper from its existing trailer design, and the interior remains the same.

The Escapod’s fully insulated cabin includes several storage cabinets and nooks. It has larger storage areas behind the angled headboard/backrest for sitting up. Among the cabinets are the control panels for the lighting, fan, heat, and solar panel battery. For warmth, the trailer runs forced-air heat off of a traditional propane tank. The warm air exits through vents by the doors and overhead.

The floor of the trailer can fit a queen-size gel foam mattress and still have ample foot room under the storage cabinets. For ventilation, the trailer’s two removable side doors have partial screens for airflow.

A wide, shaded window at the front of the trailer is overhead when lying inside. It opens for airflow and adjusts for clearer viewing of the night sky.
