Nevada Lawmakers Want Gun Control in Wake of FSU Shooting

It’s a common refrain after any tragedy involving firearms.
The gun control ghouls come out in force, seeking to leverage the tragedy to advance gun control. The more high-profile the tragedy, the more ghouls come out.
With the FSU shooting on Thursday, we’ve got the ghouls coming from at least as far away as Nevada.
They want to pass new gun control measures in the wake of the incident.
As the tragedy of the mass shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee that left two people dead and several others injured, Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto said “My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and the entire Florida State community that has been shattered by an act of senseless gun violence. and I’m grateful for the first responders who helped prevent further tragedy today.”
The recent act of violence that’s made national and international headlines has sparked conversations surrounding gun control laws throughout the U.S.
Currently in the 2025 Nevada Legislative session two assembly bills and one senate bill are calling for stricter gun control laws across the state.
The bills all aiming to increase public safety by placing more restrictions in regulating firearms throughout Nevada
“We have seen far too many shootings by people who are under 21 who get their hands on assault rifles and go out and kill,” said Assemblymember Sandra Jauregui.
Of course, Jauregui is missing that the alleged killer in Tallahassee didn’t buy any of his firearms because Florida law prohibits him from buying long guns, and federal law keeps him from buying handguns, yet he had both. He stole the handgun he used from his mother, an active police officer who purchased her duty weapon when the department upgraded. He did not lawfully obtain a firearm in any way, shape, or form.
So please, tell me how you’re going to pass any law that would stop someone like that.
Go on, tell me. Tell me what law you can pass that will outlaw stealing a gun? I mean, it’s already illegal to take property without permission, which means this was already forbidden. How can you prevent that with yet another law when the laws already on the books were insufficient?
And honestly, we know what will solve these kinds of shootings. We know how to prevent these things from becoming the horrible tragedies they are, and it’s not more gun control. If it were, California would be the safest state in the nation, yet it’s been home to more mass shootings than any other state between 1982 and September 2024. That includes having twice the number as pro-gun Texas and Florida.
But the anti-gun ghouls don’t care about facts. They care about feelings, and they’ll leverage the horror over what happened in Tallahassee to try and advance the agenda they’ve wanted all along by preying on people’s fear and revulsion over what happened.
They don’t care about stopping them. They just care about their agenda of infringing on our right to keep and bear arms without any concern over what that would actually do to the peaceful people of this great nation.
They’ll make these things worse and will still pretend they’re the solution.
