Four teenagers were charged on Wednesday in connection with a shooting in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, that killed three people and injured three more, authorities said Wednesday.
The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office said in a Wednesday Facebook statement that four people — two 16-year-olds, one 17-year-old, and one 18-year-old — were all charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony unlawful assembly in connection with the Tuesday evening shooting.
“Initial investigation reveals that this was an illegal gun sale/robbery,” the sheriff’s office said.
Three of the suspects have been arrested and are being held with no bond, the sheriff’s office said. One of the 16-year-old suspects is currently at a local hospital being treated for a gunshot wound.
Two of the victims were identified as 18-year-old Chase Feaster and 18-year-old Alonzo Goffney. The third victim, a 20-year-old, was not identified by the sheriff’s office on Wednesday pending confirmation with the Medical Examiner’s Office. Authorities did not provide any information on the three people injured during the gunfire.
Public schools in nearby Fredericksburg are scheduled to open two hours behind schedule Wednesday to allow for preparations that will enable staff to provide “care and support … during this difficult time,” the city school district said in a statement.
“This is about as bad as it can get with six people shot right now,” Scott said.
Harris said the violence was reported about 5:30 p.m. in the area of Old Greenwich Circle in Spotsylvania County, about 56 miles south of Washington.
Scott said investigators at the scene, Virginia State Police, and nearby Fredericksburg police were trying to determine what happened.
