Water Jorts for Watersports: Wrangler, Pit Viper Unveil ‘Xtreme Blue Jeans’

If you don’t immediately think of denim when you envision a great day at the beach, then you either have a crippling fear of drowning, or you have yet to lay eyes on the coolest thing to happen to blue jeans since the button fly.

Today, Wrangler, the biggest name in cowboy pants, joins forces with Pit Viper, the biggest name in mullet accessories, to launch Xtreme Blue Jeans, a collection of undeniably hip, splash-savvy denim apparel and eyewear.

“Our collaboration brings together the best of both brands — when extreme sports irreverence hooks up with a western legend, the result is undeniably electric,” Pit Viper Partnerships Manager Kai Seggar said. “That’s what this collab is all about. We share the absolute confidence that denim is the optimum technology for jet-skiing, waterskiing, rodeo, beach volleyball, and any [e]xtreme activities.”

The collection marries Pit Viper’s bombast with the iconic blues of Wrangler jeans, up to and including a snazzy pair of flip-up sunglasses with denim-styled accents.

So here’s a rundown of the summer’s hottest (seriously, quite possibly the sweatiest) capsule collection for fun-seekers.

Pit Viper x Wrangler: Xtreme Blue Jeans

Let’s be clear, on the spectrum between technical performance and swanky style, it should be obvious where checkered-pocket jorts fall. That said, solidly built denim will stand up to a lot of abuse — likely more than a spirited, Top Gun-esque beach volleyball tournament can throw at it.

But even as a style play, the Pit Viper X Wrangler mashup looks fun, irreverent, and — yeah, I’ll say it — cool. And while the hero denim vest and jorts may anchor the collection, Pit Viper adds flex with a pair of flip-up shades — a sunglasses style so ironic, even hipsters don’t get it (yet).

The unisex collection ($35-100) is available exclusively online through Wrangler.

And while it should go without saying, Wrangler makes it explicit: “Disclaimer: In no way do we recommend jet-skiing in jorts [or] a denim vest.”
