Shocks and Looks, But No More Grunt: 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X R

Nissan has just done something that only Ford has ever done before. It has reached out and partnered with a race shop and go-fast gurus Roush Performance to create the most capable production Frontier ever.

The 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X R by Roush puts a lift and an Ohlins suspension system on the truck, which will give it the ability to power through off-road obstacles like never before.

Roush Performance Is an Expert in Fast

For years, Roush Performance has been building faster Ford Mustangs and F-150s that can be bought directly through dealers. This is the company’s first time working with Nissan, and the Frontier that has come out of the partnership looks awesome.

This package starts with a standard Nissan Frontier Pro-4X built in Canton, Miss. Then, Roush-engineered and validated parts start flying at it.

Ohlins Off-Road Suspension

The big ticket upgrade is Ohlins off-road suspension. The Swedish shock company has decades of history in motorsports on- and off-road. You’ll find the brand in F1, Nascar, WRX Rallycross, and even downhill mountain bike racing.

For the Frontier, its off-road suspension system includes 2-inch diameter shocks with external reservoirs and cooling fins for ultimate durability on punishing terrain. The system helps lift the Frontier Pro-4X by 2 inches for more ground clearance, plus better approach and departure angles.

Roush’s own suspension parts for the truck include upper control arms to keep the right geometry. The result has more than 125,000 miles of durability simulation testing.

Nissan Frontier Pro-4X R Logos Everywhere

Its 17-inch off-road wheels wearing big R center caps get Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme tires for off-road traction. The trucks come with a titanium-painted front skid plate and other titanium-painted accents. Nissan wraps up the upgrades with R-logo embroidering on the seat headrests and some other badges scattered around the outside.

The only thing missing is Roush’s signature. Nissan even points out in its press release that the company is an expert in adding superchargers to engines. Sadly, there’s no repeat of the supercharged Xterra here. The 3.8L V6 making 310 horsepower won’t see any changes.

2026 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X R Could Be a Serious Bargain

A 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X R might not be able to run down a Ranger Raptor on a flat road, but if you’re on a trail, it could have a chance. It’s also just the latest in a series of cool Frontier models like the Forsberg Edition last year that came with help from a NORRA 500 off-road race-winning truck.

The new pickup starts from $47,960, which could actually represent one heck of a value. A 2025 Frontier Pro-4X with leather and a sunroof, which this Roush truck has, is priced at $47,040. We’ll find out more soon when Nissan reveals all the details for the 2026 Frontier.
