Look Out, iX3: The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 Is Hot on Your Haferlschuhs

The vehicle behind that fish-like grille is the latest SUV from Mercedes-Benz. The all-new 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC is strange on the outside, but up-to-the-minute high-tech on the inside. The launch model is all-electric with 483 horsepower, a range of about 400 miles, and the ability to tow more than 5,000 pounds.
Electric Model Will Launch New GLC
Officially, it’s called the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology. 4Matic means all-wheel drive; EQ Technology is how Mercedes-Benz has replaced its EQS and EQE names. We’ll call it the Mercedes-Benz GLC, though the gas model will be sold alongside it for at least a while.
This new GLC should have more space than the gas one. The 117-inch wheelbase is 3.3 inches longer for more passenger room, and a low floor means more headroom front and rear. It’s also the first Benz with a frunk, holding 4.5 cubic feet of cargo under the nose.
Benz didn’t give the overall length of the new GLC, but it should remain close to the 186 inches of the gas SUV. Cargo space behind the seats is nearly the same, with Benz quoting 20.1 cubic feet for the EV.
The shape is more conventional than the other Mercedes-Benz EVs launched so far, except for the new grille. It takes some elements from vintage Benz models, but it’s also loaded with nearly 1,000 LED lights. The effect is a strange one, but it is better than the jellybean EQC sold in Europe. The Benz logo head and taillight accents are a nice touch.
Fast Charging, Long Range
In the Mercedes-Benz GLC 400, two motors will make 483 horsepower. With an 800V electrical system, it should be a quick charger. So far, Benz has only revealed European specs, but by that measure, it should be able to add 188 miles in 10 minutes. The 94kWh battery has a peak charge speed of 330 kWh.
On the WLTP cycle used in Europe, its range is an estimated 443 miles. When it gets tested in the U.S., that should be close to 400 miles.
It will come with typical Mercedes-Benz levels of features. Air suspension and rear axle steering will both be offered.
It will also offer what the automaker calls a One-Box braking system. This uses one module that controls electric regeneration and the service brakes, which is meant to give you a more consistent feel and more efficient braking operation.
Last but certainly not least is the cabin. The highlight will be the optional 39.1-inch screen that runs from pillar to pillar. It’s technically three displays, but it all looks like one. If you don’t pay the extra for the big screen, you still get a digital display in front of the passenger, but it’s more like a digital picture frame.
Expect 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 Late 2026
It will use the latest MBUX operating system and digital assistant. Mercedes-Benz will use more AI to try to improve the voice command experience, and it will offer new apps like Meetings for Teams and Disney+. Multiple Burmester audio systems will be able to work with the optional active ambient lighting to give you a movie theater experience — hopefully, not when you’re driving.
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 is set to arrive at dealers in the U.S. in late 2026. Expect pricing and U.S. details early next year, but we’re expecting a starting point north of $60,000. That’s the starting point for the current GLC 350e, the plug-in hybrid version of the current model.
