Dana Loesch: ‘Restorative Justice’ Killed Ukrainian Refugee

A lot of people are still shocked by what we’ve learned of the murder of a Ukrainian refugee named Iryna Zarutska. The young, attractive blonde woman was sitting on a bus, minding her own business, when the man behind her started stabbing her out of nowhere. The vicious and violent attack was caught on video, as was her shocked reaction just moments before she collapsed from blood loss.

It’s rattled a lot of people, and there’s a lot of blame flying around.

That includes blame for the people on the bus, most of whom did nothing at all.

Dana Loesch, at her Substack, seems to have a good idea of where the blame actually lies, though.

Society tells us that the evolutionary survival instinct — that gut feeling — is bigoted and something for which you should feel shame. Women are bigots if their gut instincts led them to feel unsafe while sharing a bathroom with an unknown male; men and women both if they feel like crossing to the other side of the street because an approaching individual unsettles them. Society has become very adept at protecting and promoting the predators and making their prey easy targets by shaming them out of their self preservation instincts.

Our judicial system reinforces this further with “restorative justice,” instructing those seeking judicial relief that the compassion and mercy for the criminal is worth the cruelty to the victim in denied justice that such policies impose upon the victims.

No one intervenes because they’re called racists, like Daniel Penny. Forget that Jordan Neely was a well-known, repeat violent offender. The same media now who insist that Penny targeted Neely for race (and not because Neely was actively threatening to kill people on the train, including a woman with a baby) insist that Zarutska wasn’t at all targeted because of race — even though her killer is seen on CCTV loudly and repeatedly proclaiming “I got that white girl.” Not every case is about race or involves race but by the media’s own standards, this one does. These are their standards.

She goes on to note that people don’t want to gamble their lives and livelihoods to help in case the media makes them out to be the real evil that walks among us.

She’s right.

Every word of what she writes in this piece is correct, so you should go and read the whole thing.

Just two people stepped in to help, and this was after Iryna collapsed. One man took off his own shirt to try and stop the bleeding. That’s a good thing. He doesn’t appear to have been anywhere he could have intervened before he did, so he gets my respect, as does the young woman who also tried to help.

But as Dana notes, pretty much everyone else ran, and it’s not really shocking that they ran. The violence of action startled them. Most people aren’t ready to address that kind of violence. They were all probably unarmed, lacking even a pocket knife. None of them knew what to do. Even if they were inclined to get involved, how many of them had a clue about how to get involved?

Yet it shouldn’t have come to that. The accused had at least 14 arrests for various violent crimes. He shouldn’t have been walking around on the streets. He had a history of serious mental illness. All around, he was a menace to society, and the idea of allowing him to continue to walk free simply because mercy for the criminals is the name of the game these days is what led to Iryna’s senseless murder.

This was a woman who fled her home country because she didn’t want to be killed by Russian aggression. She came here for safety, and what did she get?

She was murdered by an idea that ignores reality.

And she was potentially killed because no one wanted to deal with the ramifications of getting involved, even if they knew how.
