AOC Blasted for Trying to Capitalize on Kirk’s Assassination to Push Anti-Gun Agenda

The anti-gunners in Congress are big believers in the whole “never let a good crisis go to waste” way of thinking. They never miss a chance to push some kind of legislation in the wake of a high-profile act of violence involving a firearm.
Right now, though, a lot of them aren’t sure what to do. The assassination of Charlie Kirk doesn’t give them a lot to work with, as noted earlier today.
One of those who tried it was Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, only she kind of sucks at delivering it.
Following the assassination of conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk, a national debate has erupted over the cause of the violence.
While many across the political spectrum have focused on condemning the act itself, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has drawn criticism for using the tragedy to promote a long-standing push for stricter gun control measures.
Speaking to reporters, Ocasio-Cortez described the killing as an “instance of political violence” but quickly pivoted from focusing on the alleged motives of the attacker to the issue of firearm legislation.
“Beyond rhetoric, we need to talk about action,” she said, before listing a series of legislative proposals. Conservatives have widely viewed this approach as an attempt to capitalize on a moment of national grief to advance a specific political agenda.
Look, I no longer consider AOC the dumbest member of Congress, but that’s because Jasmine Crockett exists. Still, this ain’t exactly a smart move on her part.
The “action” she wants is gun control. Her legislative proposals weren’t about political rhetoric or treating people like Kirk’s alleged assassin as domestic terrorists, upping penalties for attempting such attacks, or anything.
No, they were very clearly gun control.
“Every single day, there are people in this building that continue to vote against doing anything,” she said. “They vote against universal background checks. They continue to support legislation and also remove any way to block the mentally ill, to block extremists, to block people with histories and records of domestic violence from getting guns in their hands. So are we going to do something about this or not?”
The issue is that none of these would have stopped this assassination from what we can tell. The alleged killer didn’t seem to be mentally ill. We have no evidence of domestic violence from him. Sure, he was clearly an extremist, but the issue there is whose definition of “extremist” are we going to use, and would he have even popped up on the radar? There’s no evidence that the alleged killer wouldn’t have passed a background check, or that he didn’t.
So just how does she think this is relevant to what happened?
The truth of the matter is that AOC is just doing what so many other politicians do. She’s trying to leverage an incident into pushing her own agenda. In this case, she’s trying to push her gun control narrative even though this incident wouldn’t have been stopped by any of them.
And no, I’m not going to shred the individual “suggestions” piece by piece because they’re too moronic to worry about just now.
This is about how she’s trying to leverage something terrible, and she’s being criticized for it because her suggestions are stupid. That’s how it should be. She’s not making suggestions to stop the next would-be assassin. She’s just using the assassination to push for what she wanted all along despite the fact that it wouldn’t have changed a damn thing.
Kind of like every other gun control push throughout history.
Editor’s Note: Radical leftists like AOC and her fellow travelers will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
