Trad Dad: Alex Honnold Shows He’s Still Got It in ‘Next Go For Sure’ Film

Alex Honnold of Free Solo fame is now 40 years old with two kids, but make no mistake: He’s not slowing down. In “Next Go For Sure,” a Black Diamond film by Carlo Traversi, Honnold battles a 5.13b finger crack near Lake Tahoe, showing he’s still got it.
Honnold is one of the biggest names in climbing, garnering acclaim for his free solo ascents of Half Dome and El Capitan in Yosemite in 2008 and 2017, respectively. He’s also known for his successful alpine and speed ascents with Tommy Caldwell.
In the film, Honnold, along with Nik Berry and Carlo Traversi, bushwhacks his way to a remote climbing area near Lake Tahoe. The crew takes on East Face of the Plectrum, a sharp, pumpy 5.13b trad route.
In “Next Go For Sure,” take in scenic views of Tahoe as you watch Honnold quip, finger lock, and battle up this technical, physical route.
