Ilhan Omar Just Let Cat Out of the Bag With Anti-Gun Comments

Rep. Ilhan Omar has been plagued by rumors ever since she first entered office. The Somali immigrant entered Congress as part of AOC’s “squad,” along with other far-left representatives, and has pushed progressive policies ever since.
She’s anti-gun, and we all know it. She represents part of Minnesota, which is not just home to an anti-gun governor, but a lot of corruption allegations aimed at members of the Somali immigrant community there.
It’s enough you’d think Omar would at least try and focus on that aspect, but she seems to have found some time to kind of let the cat out of the bag on what she wants to see happen to our gun rights.
Such was the case recently when Rep. Omar was caught on camera weighing in on a critical issue that many of us haven’t thought about for a while. In a video reposted on the Texas Gun Rights X page, Rep. Omar enthusiastically shared her views on registration and what always follows registration—confiscation.
“We have more guns in this country than we have humans,” she said in the video. “So, one of the things that is going to be important is to create a registry so we know where the guns are. We know when they go into the wrong hands when they’re stolen. And we can actually start a buyback program. I know that some of the Minnesota legislators have had that legislation, and that’s something that we should be thinking about on a federal level.”
It’s interesting that Rep. Omar would mention a “gun buyback” in the same breath as gun registration. Pro-gun advocates have warned for years that registration always leads to confiscation wherever it has been tried. Thus, anti-gun Democrats have avoided lumping the topics together.
As we’ve chronicled a number of times on TTAG, there are numerous other problems with gun “buybacks” besides the elephant in the room—eventual confiscation. First, they can’t be “buybacks” because the government never owned the firearms they are confiscating through compensation.
And when someone starts talking about “buybacks” and registration in the same discussion, it’s hard not to look at Canada’s current “buyback” effort, that is literally confiscation with compensation, as noted above, and see that we’re talking about the same thing potentially happening here.
Gun registration is currently illegal at the federal level, but that legality would be easily overcome by a Congress that decided it wanted registration. Any bill they passed creating such a system would negate previous laws prohibiting that same system. It’s not exactly rocket science here.
That is exactly where Omar wants to go, and that’s what we’ve all argued against for generations. Gun registration only impacts law-abiding citizens. It does no good in stopping criminals from committing crimes. Stolen guns won’t suddenly turn up simply because there’s registration. At best, it’ll simply make sure people get their guns back if recovered, and a lot of people are fine with not getting them back if it means they don’t have to tell the government that they have firearms well ahead of time.
I’m sure Omar will try to claim she’s not seeking any such thing, but that would just smell of male bovine excrement, and we all know it.
This is the endgame. It’s always been the endgame.
While some anti-gunners might not want to go that far, they’ll back this just the same because they can’t wrap their heads around gun control being bad, and they’ll accept whatever lies are slung around about how this isn’t really confiscation.
But Omar knows otherwise.
