The snowpack in Colorado is dismal, and warm temperatures across the state aren’t helping. Earlier this month, Vail Resorts announced that skier visits are down 20% this year as a result of the poor conditions.
Ikon resorts must be feeling the sting, too. On Tuesday, Jan. 27, Ikon sent its pass holders an email offering $20 vouchers for anyone willing to come and ski in these less-than-ideal conditions.
All you have to do is register for the “Ski & Ride Reward Program” online. Then, go ski and ride at any U.S. Ikon Pass destination. For each day you do (up to 3 days), you’ll get $20 in “Mountain Credits” that can be used at participating resorts. That’s a max total of $60 over 3 days, if you act on this deal before Feb. 25.
It certainly isn’t the king’s ransom many skiers have become accustomed to (or even a fraction of a day pass price). But $20 could buy lunch or a couple of après beers. And anyway, when was the last time anyone offered you money to go skiing?
Ski & Ride Rewards: How Ikon ‘Mountain Credits’ Work
Once you register on the Ikon website, your account will be linked to the Ski & Ride Reward Program. Then, the next time you visit an Ikon resort, the Mountain Credit will be deposited into the primary pass holder’s online account. You must be 18 or older to participate. However, if you are under 18, the adults linked to your account will be automatically registered, and the minor’s vouchers will be deposited into their account.
Mountain Credits can be used at select restaurants, retail outlets, and equipment shops. They are available only for in-store purchases and cannot be used online. Mountain Credits (and thus the Ski & Ride Reward Program) are not available for passes discounted through a college, the military, or nursing.
You can only use Mountain Credits at participating resorts. They are accepted at Big Bear Resort, Crystal Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort, June Mountain, Mammoth Mountain, Palisades Tahoe, Schweitzer, Snowshoe Mountain, Solitude Mountain Resort, Steamboat, Stratton, Sugarbush, and Winter Park Resort.
If you don’t use your Mountain Credits, you lose them. So, don’t expect your $20 vouchers to roll over into next season. Ikon notes that any unused Mountain Credits will expire on May 31. For more information, see Ikon’s webpage on its Mountain Credits program.
This is the first time in recent memory that a resort company has offered money just to get skiers on the slopes. The conditions might not be great. In fact, they’re downright dangerous in some places.
But, this deal is unheard of — and a great excuse to get out there and go make some Ikon turns before Feb. 25.
