The gun control lobby doesn’t really have anything that resembles the NRA’s Annual Meeting, which kicks off tomorrow in Houston, Texas, and where tens of thousands of gun owners and Second Amendment supporters will gather together for a weekend of fun, freedom, activism, and more. The closest that any anti-gun outfit gets is the annual gala thrown by Brady called the Brady Action Awards.
This year’s gala took place last night in New York City, where New York Attorney General Letitia James was among the nominees. Back in 2024, the infamous Eric Swalwell was one of the evening’s guest speakers, and the New York Post is reporting that the disgraced politician and ardent gun control supporter allegedly raped one of his former staffers shortly after the gala concluded.
Swalwell was listed among the “awardees, special guests, and host committee members” at the event, held at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in Manhattan and hosted by director Judd Apatow.
After The Post reached out to the Brady organization seeking comment, the press release listing Swalwell alongside other luminaries including Sen. Chuck Schumer, actor Bradley Whitford and comedian W. Kamau Bell was conspicuously taken offline.
Video of the event was also completely scrubbed from the anti-gun advocacy group’s YouTube page, which left the streams of the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025 events available for viewing at the time of writing.
A Google search cache references the 54-minute and 45-second video from the 2024 event as previously existing, but there is no corresponding live link.
CNN mentioned viewing the video and seeing photos of Swalwell and the former staffer together at the gala, but didn’t specify what event they were attending.
The day of Brady’s gun-grabbing gala, Swalwell shared a meme on his Instagram page that showed a handgun and the phrase “free to carry,” along with a photo of a pregnant woman with the caption “forced to carry.” Of course, if Swalwell and groups like Brady had their way, no woman would be able to lawfully carry a firearm in self-defense, including defense against rapists.
The Post says Brady declined to comment when “pressed for a statement,” but the paper also notes that Brady was among the first organizations to call for Swalwell to resign his seat in Congress and drop out of the California governor’s race.
In a statement released on April 11, Brady said “we unequivocally believe the courageous women who have shared their experiences of sexual harassment and assault by Rep. Eric Swalwell. The detailed reporting of their accounts makes strikingly clear that Swalwell is unfit for office. There is only one right response: Eric Swalwell must resign from Congress and drop out of the California governor’s race now.”
Who knew I could actually agree with Brady on something? Still, the fact remains that Brady is dedicated to the proposition that no one should exercise their right to keep and bear arms in self-defense, including women who’ve been the victim of stalkers, abusers, and rapists. They’re working hard to ensure that women and men who do exercise their right to carry are disarmed in as many places as possible. They even want women who are desperate to acquire a gun because of threats against them to be forced to wait for days on end before they can take possession of a firearm they’ve purchased.
Whether Brady can admit it or not, that’s exactly what violent criminals and sexual predators want too. The last thing a rapist wants is a victim who can fight back, especially with lethal force. And no matter what Brady says about believing the women who came forward to detail the abuse they allegedly suffered at the hands of Eric Swalwell, the organization shamefully continues to push for laws that absolutely make it harder for victims across the country to defend themselves from physical and sexual assaults.
