Massachusetts Needs More Modern Day Minutemen Like the Marine Vet Who Helped End a Mass Shooting

Second Amendment groups are hailing the actions of an armed citizen who helped stop a violent felon who was shooting at cars on a busy thoroughfare in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Monday.

The Gun Owners Action League, which is the largest 2A group in the state, noted that the suspect could have been behind bars for randomly firing shots with a gun he couldn’t legally possess back in 2020. But the group also praised the retired Marine who returned fire on Monday, helping to save countless lives in the process.

Tyler Brown, previously convicted for shooting at police officers, was allowed to walk free after only three years in prison. Despite the touted gun laws in the Commonwealth this convicted violent felon acquired a firearm and went on a rampage on Memorial Drive in Cambridge. It was only due to the quick action of a lawfully armed citizen assisting a State Police officer that brought an end to it.

“This terrorist like attack was completely preventable. The attacker should have still been in prison,” said Jim Wallace, Executive Director of GOAL. “People would say that the system is broken, but I won’t say that any longer because this IS the system! We have all three branches of the Commonwealth’s government that pander to criminals, but look to punish average citizens in every way. This crime, and countless more like it, are the direct results of catastrophic policies by our government officials and somehow we have to hold them accountable.”

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, where I serve as an unpaid board member, also praised the armed citizen for coming to the aid of potential victims.

“This armed citizen has so far not been identified publicly by the media,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “but he is a hero in every sense. We know from news accounts that he is a Marine Corps veteran, and that he is licensed to carry a firearm in Massachusetts. This man joined a state trooper to stop a rampage, and in the process, once again demonstrated the value of an armed citizenry to public safety.”

“Many questions remain about this incident,” Gottlieb added, “but what we do know is that a legally-armed private citizen intervened in a dangerous situation and played a key role in bringing the rampage to a halt. It is not the first time an armed citizen, regardless of previous military experience, has stopped a would-be killer.”

No, and it’s not the first time that a state’s draconian gun laws have failed to stop a violent offender from getting their hands on a firearm either. Sadly, it won’t be the last. But if the vast majority of Massachusetts lawmakers had their way, there would be no change of a deranged shooter being confronted or stopped by an armed citizen exercising their Second Amendment rights.

We don’t know much about this modern day Minuteman other than the fact that he’s a Marine veteran. I don’t know if he’ll ever choose to go public or talk about his actions, but if he’s reading this I’d like to invite him to be my guest at the upcoming GOAL 250 event in Boxborough, Massachusetts on June 13. He can even have my seat. I’d be more than happy to give it up and stand for this individual who acted with heroism and bravery when a madman tried to murder as many people as possible.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
