Australian Satire Reveals Truth About Restrictive Governments

Australia is about to start requiring people who use social media to verify their age. The reason? They want to ban people under 16 from using the sites.

It’s not something we’ve talked about, and it’s not something I’ve really followed much, because it’s Australia and it’s not about guns.

However, I came across a satire site from the Land Downunder that actually did a pretty good job of showing the problem with restrictive governments in general.

The social media giants are surprisingly shocked that a country quick to ban guns and nights out is also being such narks about keeping under 16s off their platforms.

The under 16s ban, a world first in social media regulation, has come as something of a shock to the social media titans, who were completely unaware of Australia’s proud nanny state status.

“Well yeah they ended the gun debate in a few weeks over a mass shooting and shut down an entire city’s nightlife for a decade after a murder, but we didn’t think they’d go so hard on us!” said one spokesperson for Meta.

Officials argued that if Australia could stop people from dancing after 1:30am, stopping kids from doomscrolling before puberty should be a breeze.

Yes, apparently, they actually banned dancing after 1:30 in the morning in parts of Sydney.

They definitely issued heavy gun restrictions in no time flat.

And now they’re going to restrict kids from using social media, and in the process, they’ll be able to have some kind of monitoring of whatever person in the country is doing online.

While it might start with age limits, you’re deluding yourself if you think it’ll stop there.

It doesn’t matter, though, because the only way to resist is through voting, and that just means the desires of the mob trump anyone’s rights to do anything else. If they get enough control, they’ll decide what people can be aware of in the first place, which just makes it that much easier, and since guns are so heavily restricted, there’s little danger of anyone rising up in defense of their rights.

I mean, I know Australia started off as a penal colony. It’s kind of wrong to still treat them like criminals after all these years, you know?

Hell, I’m from Georgia. We started off as a penal colony, too, and we don’t treat everyone like they’re still being punished for debts–we were, in fact, a colony for people from debtor’s prisons–back in England.

While this is meant as a joke, there’s a truth here. Authoritative nations will push as they will, and until they’re stopped, they will keep pushing. This is where the line is today, but since that line extended beyond extensive gun control, they have no need to worry.

When rights are looked at as privileges that can be restricted on a governmental whim, everything is up for grabs. The Nanny State will nanny, and it will do so with an iron fist sooner or later.

Australia, like the UK, shouldn’t be considered part of the free world. Nowhere beyond America’s borders should be.
