Backcountry Ice Skating With a Hot Tent: Alaska Man Goes Winter Camping

There are a lot of different ways to get around in the backcountry in wintertime. Lots of people ski or snowshoe. Others use dog sleds or snowmobiles, and some (not many), like the YouTuber YOGOMAN, use ice skates. In his latest video, YOGOMAN takes us on a cross-country backwoods Alaskan camping trip to test out his new Alaska Gear Company Arctic Oven Hot Tent.
It’s a novel maiden voyage for the tent. YOGOMAN loads it up in a sled, heads to the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, and hits the ice, skating to his lakeside destination to assemble his shelter. Hot tents, like this Arctic Oven, use wood-burning stoves to generate heat and keep occupants warm deep into negative temperatures. They’re great for backcountry skiing, hunting, and, apparently, backcountry wild-ice skating trips.
Get lost in this mesmerizing video. If you like to skate and winter camp, it might just serve as some adventure inspiration.
