British Murder Proves Guns Aren’t the Problem
Guns, we’ve been told, are the problem. Without them, a lot of our issues wouldn’t be a thing, you see. Especially multiple murders such as mass shootings and such.
Of course, the issue with gun control is that it doesn’t really control the guns. It controls those who would follow the law, which are generally also the people who aren’t going to kill people or rob them.
Yet even when a gun is absent or even unobtainable, when someone wants to kill people, they’ll find a way.
Take this guy in the UK who just admitted to a triple homicide.
A man has admitted murdering his ex-girlfriend and her sister with a crossbow and their mother with a knife in an attack at the family home.
Carol Hunt, 61, was stabbed to death and Hannah Hunt, 28, and Louise Hunt, 25, suffered fatal crossbow bolt injuries in Bushey, near Watford, on 9 July.
Kyle Clifford, 26, from Enfield, north London, changed his previous not guilty pleas to their murders during an appearance via video link at Cambridge Crown Court.
The three women were the wife and daughters of BBC racing commentator John Hunt, and Louise was a former partner of Clifford.
Clifford, of Rendlesham Road, changed his pleas having denied murdering the three women during a hearing at the same court in December.
He has also now pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and possession of an offensive weapon.
He pleaded not guilty to a charge of raping Louise Hunt and is due to stand trial on that charge on 3 March.
He used a crossbow and a knife.
It kind of reminded me of an attack in Norway several years ago where five people were killed with a bow and arrow.
See, when someone wants to kill, they’ll find a way to kill. The story of Cain and Abel didn’t require guns to exist for the story to happen. Murders have happened all throughout recorded history. People have used all kinds of things as murder weapons and will continue to do so.
Just about anything is a weapon if you’re the dangerous one. Yeah, it’s kind of cliche and sounds like something some wannabe badass would wear on a t-shirt, probably with a Punisher skull on it, but it’s also true. People have been killed with lamps, bottles, pieces of furniture, and just about anything else you can think of.
In this case, someone used a crossbow to kill two people, then stabbed the third to death, and you’re still going to try to tell me that guns are the issue?
It’s a people problem. It’s always been a people problem.
Until and unless we acknowledge that fact, we’re never going to deal with it.
Unfortunately for us, that’s not going to happen. This case in the UK makes it pretty clear that bad people don’t need guns to kill, but we’ve got plenty of cases not entirely unlike this here in the United States. Our non-gun homicide rate is higher than many other nation’s total homicide rates. Even with supposedly easily-accessible guns, people are murdered without them far too often for anyone’s comfort.
That’s because we have too many people who have no respect for human life.
