The most shocking thing about Illinois’s passing an assault weapon ban wasn’t that they did it, but that they hadn’t done it before. I mean, it’s an anti-gun state that has no regard for the right to keep and bear arms, so it was kind of surprising they hadn’t shut down ownership of things like AR-15s decades ago.
As we routinely say, though, such laws don’t stop criminals. They stop the law-abiding.
Anti-gunners argue otherwise, obviously, but the truth of the matter is that we’re right and they’re wrong. In fact, not only do thugs in Chicago not care to follow the law, they don’t seem to really care who might be aware that they’re breaking it.

Yeah, some of these covered their faces while others wore gloves, but some didn’t do either, and all of them not just allowed themselves to be recorded, but have that recording put on the internet where anyone can see it.
Part of that might be youthful stupidity, that whole lack of understanding of the consequences of their actions, but that isn’t all of it.
Also note they’re carrying concealed in that video, and we all know they don’t have carry permits.
Meanwhile, what has Illinois done about gang-bangers like these tooling around the Windy City armed like they’re set to invade Iran? They decided that concealed carry on public transportation was a no-go.
Because the laws about having so-called assault weapons and concealed firearms without a permit did such a great job in stopping these thugs from doing those exact things.
Look, I don’t want to buy into conspiracy theories because while far too many of them have come true since 2020, most of the time, they’re nuts. That said, it’s kind of hard to see stuff like this, see the government’s response (or lack thereof) to it, and couple it with the violent criminals who keep being put out on the streets when they should be locked up and not think there’s some grand design to make the country as violent as possible so they can push gun control onto us.
The only thing that keeps that in check is the fact that I don’t see our opponents as smart enough to do this and not start bragging about what they’re doing.
But Illinois’s response to this, if there is one, will likely be more restrictions that won’t stop the Two-Two-Boys and other Chicagoland gangs, but will turn a lot of law-abiding folks into felons overnight unless they make themselves even more defenseless in the face of evil.
Gun control never works.
Or, perhaps more accurately, it never works as proponents claim it will.
I’m pretty sure it works for what some of them want, though.
