DOJ Pick for Co-Deputy Director of FBI Gets Applause From 2A Group

The FBI is a troubled agency. For far too long, they’ve been an instrument of politics, not a law enforcement agency. They’re not alone in this, unfortunately, but as the big boy of federal law enforcement, it makes the issue far more pronounced.
Kash Patel and Dan Bongino running the show helps a bit, though individual problem agents may still slip through the cracks, but it was a good start by the Trump administration.
Now, it seems a co-deputy director has been named, and Gun Owners of America is thrilled at the pick.
From a press release:
Gun Owners of America (GOA) is excited to see the appointment of Missouri’s Attorney General to Co-Deputy Director position of the FBI. AG Bailey, who was a speaker at GOA’s inaugural GOALS conference in Knoxville last August, is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and the right to keep and bear arms.
GOA, Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), and the State of Missouri recently filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri to challenge the Jackson County, Missouri ordinance which criminalizes handgun purchases by adults under 21 and bans those aged 18-20 from possessing undefined” semiautomatic assault rifles.”
With the FBI now under the leadership of Director Kash Patel, AG Bailey’s addition will be instrumental in ensuring the agency’s resources are not weaponized against peaceful American citizens.
Tim Macy, Chairman of Gun Owners of America, issued the following statement:
“Attorney General Andrew Bailey has consistently stood with GOA and GOF in challenging government infringements on the Second Amendment. We are excited to see a proven ally who shares our No Compromise mission take on an active role in President Trump’s second term.”Erich Pratt, Senior Vice President of Gun Owners of America, added:
“The Biden-era FBI made it clear it was no friend to Americans—especially gun owners—as anti-gunners weaponized the agency to undermine our constitutional rights. We’re confident AG Bailey will help put a stop to this abuse and bring the leadership the FBI desperately needs.”
Patel and Bongino are pro-gun. That’s not really up for debate in my mind. However, having Bailey in the mix with them gives the FBI powerful pro-gun leadership, and while the ATF is the agency in charge of regulating guns–and the Trump administration wants to fold them in with the DEA, which is less than ideal–the FBI still has its fingers in the gun regulatory pie via NICS.
And since federal law enforcement also forced people to sign away their Second Amendment rights out of fear of prosecution if they didn’t, it’s a lot easier to be confident that such things aren’t going to happen under this leadership team.
However, I’m also going to say that there’s a lot of work that still needs to be done within the FBI. Top-level leadership wasn’t the totality of the issue over the last couple of administrations. They undermined Trump during his first term, and they were at the Biden administration’s beck and call, ready to do their dirty work.
This wasn’t the first time the FBI had an issue like that. J. Edgar Hoover was notorious for having his own political agenda and using the bureau to take down enemies. We don’t need that.
Still, this is a good move forward.
Editor’s Note: President Trump and Republicans across the country are doing everything they can to protect our Second Amendment rights and right to self-defense.
