Fork Failure: BMC Issues Recall for Kaius 01 Gravel Bikes

BMC announced a voluntary recall today for Kaius 01 gravel bikes and frames. The brand said it received reports of “a few instances where certain fork steerer tubes have separated under heavy duty riding conditions.”
The defect in question rests with the carbon steerer tube. This is part of the fork that extends through the frame’s head tube and connects to the stem and handlebar. A failure of the steerer tube could lead to a serious breakdown or crash.
The BMC Kaius 01 gravel bikes and frames affected by this recall come from model years 2023 to 2026.
BMC Kaius 01 Recalled Models
The Kaius 01 is the Swiss brand’s racing-oriented gravel bike, whereas the URS line is more adventure-oriented. BMC lists these specific models in the recall notice:
- 2023 Kaius 01 ONE
- 2023 Kaius 01 TWO
- 2023 Kaius 01 THREE
- 2024 Kaius 01 LTD
- 2024 Kaius 01 ONE
- 2024 Kaius 01 TWO
- 2024 Kaius 01 THREE
- 2026 Kaius 01 THREE
- 2026 Kaius 01 FRS
What to Do
BMC instructs owners of the listed bicycles to stop riding them immediately and take the Kaius to a local BMC retailer or the original point of purchase. There, the dealer will inspect the fork steerer tube. If necessary, BMC will replace affected units with a “more robust version.”
The inspection, replacement fork, and associated labor will be provided at no cost to the bicycle owner.
