Full-Face Snow Helmet, Ultralight Microphone, Graphene Trail Runners, and More Emerging Gear

We missed Emerging Gear last week, so in classic Thanksgiving style — we’re serving up leftovers. That means we’ve got a few extra platters of outdoor gear for you to peruse.

Snow lovers will want to window-shop the gorgeous new Eileen Gu skis from Faction, as well as the Stormtrooper-like snow helmets from Ruroc. Cyclists won’t want to miss this week, as we’re featuring a new road bike, gravel bikes, and an electric pocket pump.

Runners and campers will find plenty to sate their gear lust, and there are also a few items that may appeal to adventurous creatives looking for new storytelling tools. Enjoy a giant-sized edition of Emerging Gear.

Ruroc RG2

This helmet comes with quite a few perks and a few quirks.

Ruroc launched the RG2, a full-face snowsports helmet that combines modularity with “advanced safety technology.” Building on the RG1 model, the RG2 offers a Magnetic Mask System, allowing riders to change between full-face or open-face configurations, even with gloves on.

Safety features include rotational and linear impact protection, and a Twiceme NFC chip for storing emergency medical details. A 360º Fit System provides a customizable fit for various head sizes, while an integrated communications system enables music streaming, calls, and connectivity with up to 15 riders via a mesh network, the brand said.

Recognized with a 2024 ISPO Award last week, the RG2 costs $380, including RG2 goggles.

DJI Mic Mini

DJI lovers and content creators may want a closer look at the tiny DJI Mic Mini. This lightweight, wireless microphone is designed for content creators seeking high-quality audio recording, according to the brand. Weighing just 10 g, the Mic Mini includes omnidirectional audio capture, noise cancellation, and long-range transmission up to 400 m.

The DJI Mic Mini comes in two configurations: a dual-transmitter set for $170 and a single-transmitter option for $90. Both include accessories like windscreens, clip magnets, and carrying pouches. Individual transmitters are available for $60 each, and the charging case retails for $50.

With advanced noise cancellation, mono and stereo recording options, and a 48-hour case battery life, the Mic Mini is compatible with DJI devices, cameras, and smartphones.

inov8 Trailtalon

Inov8 calls the Trailtalon series its most versatile trail running shoe range yet. With three models, including the Trailtalon, Trailtalon GTX, and Trailtalon Speed, the shoes are designed to perform on diverse terrains, from soft mud to hard-packed trails. Their 6mm lugs are inspired by mountain goat hooves and infused with graphene, a super-strong material.

Sitting between inov8’s Trailfly and Mudtalon ranges, the Trailtalon series balances cushioning and ground feel with a foot-shaped design and breathable, flexible uppers, the brand said. The GTX model incorporates a waterproof GORE-TEX membrane, while the lighter SPEED version has reduced cushioning and a stripped-back upper.

HOTO Tools Pocket Air Pump

HOTO Tools has introduced the Pocket Air Pump, a compact solution for cyclists facing tire emergencies. Weighing just 0.56 pounds (255 g) and smaller than an iPhone 15, the pump delivers up to 150 psi, inflating an 80 psi bike tire in just 60 seconds, according to HOTO. Its flick-to-start design and 360° rotatable nozzle supposedly allow for quick and easy operation.

Powered by a 2,000 mAh rechargeable battery, the device inflates up to eight flat tires or tops off 18 low-pressure ones on a single charge. It has a digital display, two customizable psi presets, and an auto-stop function for precise inflation. A high-efficiency brushless motor also results in quieter operation and durability.

Compact enough to fit in a pocket or bike pouch, the pump is available now for $60.

Faction x Eileen Gu Skis

Faction Skis and Olympic medalist Eileen Gu have launched the Year of the Wood Dragon Signature Series Skis. The collection includes the Studio 0 Gu and Prodigy 1 Gu models, both with art inspired by the Lunar Year of the Wood Dragon.

Eileen Gu, a three-time Olympic medalist and two-time Crystal Globe winner, collaborated on the design, which symbolizes authority, prosperity, and abundance through the dragon motif, the brand said. The capsule celebrates Gu’s influence on freeskiing and her anticipated upcoming competition season. Get the design in Faction’s Prodigy or Studio styles, or even as a skateboard.

Argonaut Supernaut

Bend, Oregon-based Argonaut Cycles just unveiled the Supernaut, its new flagship model. Initially launched in 2023 as a limited-edition ride, the Supernaut is now available in 2025 with only 30 production slots.

The Supernaut GR3 gravel bike is priced at $15,900, while the Supernaut RM3 road bike costs $16,500. Both models feature raw carbon frames accented with Caribbean Pearl highlights. Build options include SRAM Red or Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets and Argonaut’s D33/R43 wheelsets.

Designed for precision, Supernaut’s 13 size options are tailored to each rider’s biomechanics, the brand said. Key features include a Ceramic Speed T47 bottom bracket, ENVE-integrated cockpit and seatpost, and Schwalbe tires.

The James Brand Bolen Pen

I have to admit: I really like this pen.

The James Brand sent me The Bolen, its first twist-retractable pen, a few months ago. While initially skeptical, I’ve become so enamored of this pen that I sometimes leave it in my bag just for fear of losing it. That’s partially because I’m prone to misplacing small objects, but more the result of how dang cool it is.

This titanium pen is certainly durable, including the clip, which actually seems to hold the pen in place (who knew that was possible?). A twist mechanism is fun enough to use obsessively, like any decent pen, and it feels great to write with the black Parker-style G2 ink. Is it worth $180? Probably if you’re more fastidious than I am. Either way, this is a fantastic writing tool.

Mission Workshop Waterproof Cap

Mission Workshop has introduced the MW7: H2O Waterproof Cap, designed for sun, wind, and rain protection while maintaining breathability. Made from 100% recycled polyester micro-ripstop fabric by Italian textile mill Majocchi, it costs $85.

With a fully seam-taped design and a PFC-free DWR finish, the cap offers a 10,000mm water column rating to withstand harsh weather, the brand said. Its waterproof membrane will keep off the moisture, while efficient moisture-wicking technology aims to keep you cool and dry. The cap is wrinkle-resistant, packable, and includes a flexible bill.

NESTOUT Portable Fan

If you’re still looking at hot weather in the near future, this portable fan is worth a look.

The NESTOUT Fan, priced at $70, aims for summer cooling and winter air circulation. Compatible with NESTOUT’s 5,000mAh and 10,000mAh batteries, it also works with USB power banks, chargers, or wall outlets.

It’s got four adjustable speeds, including a Breeze Mode that mimics natural wind, and smart oscillation with 40-degree, 70-degree, and 100-degree settings. The fan’s adjustable neck offers up to 90 degrees of manual airflow control.

Mounting options include a large metal hook and a removable tripod. A Full Kit version ($100) adds a clamp for secure attachment to tables or poles. The fan also includes an automatic shut-off timer with 60-, 120-, and 240-minute options to conserve battery life.

Velocio Riding Pack

Velocio, a New England-based cycling apparel brand, just launched a bag line aimed at both racers and everyday cyclists.

The Riding Pack ($160) is a 25L expandable roll-top backpack designed for commuting and daily use. The pack is weather-resistant, adaptable, and suited to the demands of cyclists navigating diverse conditions. Velocio is also kicking off its first bag launch with the Riding Duffel ($180), a 40L bag built for durability and convenience, ideal for travel, races, or weekend adventures.

Festka Gravel Bike

Prague-based carbon frame manufacturer Festka has launched the Spectre Gravel, a high-performance gravel bike designed to deliver speed, comfort, and versatility across diverse terrains, the brand said.

Unveiled in October at various European bike shows, the Spectre Gravel has a sleek design with a flattened top tube, signature rear monostay, and internal headset bearing integration. Its construction aims for enhanced rear wheel grip and traction, along with a 44mm tire clearance for better handling.

Equipped with UDH dropouts, the Spectre Gravel is compatible with SRAM RED XPLR for optimal shifting on mixed terrains. Prices start at $9,345 for the frameset and $10,940 for a complete build (prices converted from euros).

Ombraz Risers, Side Shields

Ombraz has launched two new accessories designed to enhance its armless sunglasses. The Nose Pad Risers ($30) and Cammina Side Shields ($65) cater to outdoor enthusiasts and everyday users seeking improved performance in challenging conditions.

The Nose Pad Risers are crafted from rubberized silicone using 3D printing. These risers improve airflow to reduce lens fogging, enhance ventilation, and limit sweat and oil build-up, according to Ombraz. Designed for low nose bridges, they also improve fit, stability, and comfort during high-output activities.

The Cammina Side Shields, tailored for Ombraz’s Cammina frame, offer removable glare reduction and added protection in bright or windy environments. With patent-pending louvered ventilation, the shields should work great on water, snow, or other high-sun terrain.
