Gun Owners’ Action League Steps Up to Aid Gun Trainers and Students

Massachusetts has been dealing with issues since their post-Bruen law change. Training has been a sticking point. Gun Owners’ Action League recently released an updated slide deck to help instructors.

Gun Owners’ Action League is the Massachusetts National Rifle Association state affiliate club. GOAL’s training division has always been robust and helpful in ensuring trainers, as well as license candidates, are receiving correct information. Since the post-Bruen law change, training requirements for license to carry candidates was affected. Head of training, Jon Green, recently announced that the League has released an updated slide deck for instructors to use in their classes.

“GOAL has created a new slide show based on the requirements of C.135. for GOAL members that are certified to conduct Approved Basic Firearm Safety courses by the Colonel of the MSP,” an email notification from the League stated. “This brand-new show consists of 23 slides and covers the requirements set forth in M.G.L C.140 §131P and the current CMR’s.”

GOAL’s notification included instructions on how to obtain the new slide deck. Individuals must send a copy of their instructor credentials–Massachusetts State Police Certified Basic Firearms Safety certificate–with a screenshot of one’s membership card as proof of GOAL membership to the training division via email. The request email’s subject line should be: “C.135 Slide Show.” After verification of credentials, the slide .pptx deck will be sent to qualified instructors.

The April 2025 document’s 23 slides covers a variety of topics which include:

  • Massachusetts firearm laws resources
  • Types of firearm licenses in the Commonwealth
  • The process to get a license
  • Navigating different forms and paperwork
  • Denial criteria
  • Renewal instructions
  • Firearm transfer instructions
  • Prohibited and allowed firearms
  • Carry restrictions
  • and more…

This slide deck has information that Massachusetts instructors will find useful to help convey intricate portions of the material that firearm owners must know in the Commonwealth. The 2025 update includes the most up-to-date material as of publication.

“Massachusetts firearms law has always been ambiguous and confusing. This is even more pronounced with the passage of Chapter 135,” said GOAL’s Director of Education & Training Jon Green. “Basic Firearm Safety Instructors, certified by the Colonel of the Massachusetts State Police, are required to cover the applicable statutes for possession, storage and transportation of firearms in their ‘Approved’ BFS courses. Unfortunately, unlike Utah, there are no state-produced handouts regarding the aforementioned statutes. Gun Owners’ Action League is proud to produce and provide a free, professionally created slideshow for our members that teach these government mandated classes.”

The expertise of GOAL’s training division has been pivotal over the years in servicing firearm owners and instructors. The knowledge and dedication from that office is second to none in the Bay State. More information about Gun Owners’ Action League can be found at GOAL.org.
