Michigan Mayor Says Gun Owners Should be ‘Ashamed of Themselves’

Despite what’s on their mind and in their hearts, most Democrats are savvy enough to say they support the Second Amendment (while remaining silent on what they think the Second Amendment actually protects).

Every now and then, though, we get a Democrat politician who’s not afraid to tell us what they really think about the right to keep and bear arms… and those of us who exercise that right.

The video of LeGrand starts in mid-comment, with the mayor stating that “nobody changes their tire with a gun.”

What they’re for is killing human beings. And so it’s really hard, I think, as a community, we have to start having some shaming around gun possession. I think, I think if you’ve got a gun you should be ashamed of yourself. I really do.

Now, I’m sorry. That’s going to be the soundbite of the night and the NRA is gonna be mad at me. But like, you know, I get that we’ve got a Second Amendment. I get it. But, you know, you also should be ashamed of yourself if you smoke. That’s not against the law. I think if you own a gun you should be ashamed of yourself, and you should really do some self-reflection. I just see so much more harm, just like with cigarettes, I see so much more harm than benefit.

Personally, I think anyone who voted for this talking turnip should be ashamed of themselves, and I don’t believe anyone should ever be ashamed for exercising their constitutionally protected rights (unless, perhaps, they’re doing it to make a mockery of that right or to feed their toxic narcissism and shamelessly draw attention to themselves).

LeGrand’s analogy to smoking is also off base. Smoking may not be against the law, but it’s not mentioned in the Bill of Rights either. Smoking-related illnesses kill more than five times as many people than all victims of “gun violence”, be it suicide, homicide, or an accidental/negligent shooting. And while I’ve never heard of anyone lighting up a cigarette in self-defense, even the lowest estimated number of defense gun uses by gun control groups like Everytown are higher than the total number of “gun-involved deaths” each year.

What makes LeGrand’s comments even dumber is that we are living at a time where there are more guns in civilian hands than ever before, and murders are their lowest levels since the FBI began keeping track in 1960.

It’s not just murders. The Council on Criminal Justice found that last year in the 40 cities it monitored, gun assaults decreased by 22%, robberies fell by 23%, and carjackings decreased by 43%. More guns is not leading to more crime, as LeGrand apparently believes.

Given the leftward tilt of Grand Rapids, I doubt that LeGrand’s remarks are going to do much damage to him politically. I doubt, though, that you’ll see many Democratic politicians rise to his defense. Like I said, most of them are politically savvy enough to at least pretend to support the Second Amendment, even if it’s clear by their actions that they share LeGrand’s point of view.

Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
