Republican State Attorney in Florida Cites Everytown in Gun Case

Groups like Florida Carry should, at least on paper, have every advantage in getting their agenda passed. After all, there’s a Republican governor and a supermajority in both chambers of the legislature. There are also a whole lot of Republican state attorneys throughout Florida. On every level, between legislation and judicial action, one might imagine they’d have the ultimate edge.

And yet, they don’t.

Too many supposed Republicans–the party that’s supposed to be the pro-gun party, that is–seem more interested in siding with gun control advocates.

For example, we’ve got a Republican state attorney citing….well, look for yourself.

That’s…well, that’s something. Then again, we’ve also got this happening:

As ridiculous as that is, copying Everytown’s homework to justify a ban on adults under 21 from buying guns is pretty freaking disgusting. Of course, they’re getting called out on this, but why would anyone who purports to stand for freedom even look at their arguments?

Everytown, like most other gun control groups, is ultimately working toward a world where only a select minority of elites are permitted to have firearms. They say they don’t want to ban them, and that’s true. They just don’t want you to be able to have them. They figure they’re perfectly acceptable as gun owners, though, and want to make sure they can protect themselves even while the rest of us are screwed.

One would imagine that a Republican state attorney would understand this and, even if he or she believes that the ban is constitutional, would find a better way to make that argument than to cite an organization known for manipulating facts, ignoring inconvenient facts, and generally just making crap up, all to justify gun control.

Instead, he’s citing them in an effort to curtail the rights of Floridians to do something pretty basic.

Maybe it’s just me, but this seems like pretty good grounds to vote against the guy next election. Once you start treating Everytown as serious and accurate, it’s hard to dismiss them as problematic later. Either you know it and are just using it to justify what he wants for now, or you’re clueless as to who the organization is, neither of which is a good state of affairs in any way.

One means you’re an idiot. The other means you’re an amoral jackwagon who can’t be trusted.

I’m legitimately bothered by the fact that supposed allies of gun rights in Florida keep doing crap like this, and now not just in the legislature.

Editor’s Note: While President Trump and most Republicans across the country are doing everything they can to protect our Second Amendment rights and right to self-defense, some so-called conservatives are defending infringements on those rights instead.
