While NYC Brags About Destroying Guns, What Did They Accomplish?

Far too many people in this country look at guns like cursed items from a Dungeons & Dragons game. They think that somehow, the gun acts with a mystical force, turning good people into violent criminals.

I’m sure none of them would admit to seeing it that way, but their actions tell me differently.

This was summed up pretty well with a report out of the Big Apple, where thousands of guns were destroyed in a “gun chipper.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch on Thursday celebrated the destruction of 3,375 seized illegal handguns and 200 rifles.

The firearms were only a small portion of the more than 21,400 seized firearms seized since Adams took over the administration.

The weapons were loaded onto a conveyor belt and fed to a gun chipper to be turned into scrap metal and recycled.

“Today, we say goodbye and good riddance to thousands of illegal guns that no longer threaten the safety of our neighborhoods, our families, or our children by sending over 3,500 illegal guns off to their final destination: into a gun chipper to be turned into scrap metal and eventually recycled,” Adams said at a press conference.

“These guns will never be used again to endanger another child, terrify another New Yorker, or destroy another life. Although today’s destruction has dammed up one more river that leads to the sea of violence, we know that there is always more work to be done. We will keep pressing for more — more officers, more safety, more results. And because of our continued mission to eradicate gun violence, New York City continues to be the safest big city in America.”

Nearly 3,400 guns.

Now, keep in mind that there are an estimated 11.2 million guns made in the United States each day by lawful manufacturers. That means nearly 31,000 each and every day, on average. It’ll take less than three hours to replace those firearms.

And while those guns might never be used to terrorize again, the problem is that the people who did the terrorizing will simply get more guns.

But do you know what those nearly 3,400 guns could have been used to do?

They could have been sold to lawful dealers who could then sell them to law-abiding citizens who would then have the means to defend themselves. Instead, they were destroyed in an attempt to make people think something got accomplished.

The guns aren’t the problem. The people are the problem. Until and unless you do something about that, you’re never going to solve the problems that plague cities like New York.

Take those out of the equation, and you can hand out rocket launchers in Times Square and never have an issue.

Yet they act like it’s the guns. They’ve always done this and it’s stupid.

Stop it.
