Canadian Pro-Gun Voices Push Back at Ottawa’s Gun Grab

Canada has never been as pro-gun as we have, but it’s been closer than many might think. It wasn’t that long ago that they could get a short-barreled AR-style rifle over the counter, for example, so they had that going for them, and we didn’t, so it wasn’t as bad as it is now.
These days, they’ve basically banned the trade of so-called assault weapons and handguns. You know, most of the weapons people use to defend themselves.
Nothing major.
But there’s definitely resentment with the move, and while it might feel like a done deal, pro-gun voices up that way aren’t exactly rolling over and playing dead. They’re calling Ottawa out for playing politics with people’s access to firearms.
The federal government is once again on a crusade to end legal gun ownership.
Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree recently announced the “Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program,” an initiative that should be vigorously opposed by anyone who cares about truth, government integrity and public safety.
…
And there is no evidence whatsoever that this program would contribute to greater public safety. The great majority of gun crimes are not, in fact, committed by law-abiding gun owners but by criminals using guns smuggled in from the United States.
This simple fact is so well established that several provinces and cities, including Toronto, have already announced they would not cooperate with the federal government. And for good reason.
Participation in this ill-conceived program would divert scarce police and financial resources, target innocent citizens and endanger countless lives by letting more armed criminals roam Canadian streets.
The few jurisdictions, such as Quebec and Winnipeg, that have shown a willingness to cooperate with Ottawa appear to have done so largely in exchange for financial support.
Overall, the program is shaping up to be a fiscal nightmare. Total costs are expected to reach $6 billion or perhaps more, which seems realistic considering the now-defunct gun registry program was originally priced at about $117 million but ballooned past $1 billion before it was scrapped in 2012.
The author also notes that the term “assault-style firearms” conjures up images of full-auto weapons, which have been banned since the 1970s, and that the minister was recorded saying he’s driven more by politics than public safety.
The whole thing has been a complete trainwreck since the start, which is par for the course for this sort of thing, especially since the whole thing has been about politics and not safety.
Let us not forget that former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was embroiled in a “brownface” scandal when pictures of his Aladdin cosplay surfaced. He felt the heat, then decided to go on an anti-gun jihad, and the press fell in line, just like they did with Ralph Northam in Virginia after his blackface scandal broke.
The gun grab started as a politician trying to deflect from his own crisis. When it worked, what followed was a series of anti-gun moves driven by the need to maintain popularity, not a profound sense of right and wrong.
But even if it were, it wouldn’t really matter all that much, because where Canada has screwed up from the start was not recognizing the right to keep and bear arms as, you know, a right.
It’s not acknowledged at all up that way, and other ministers have said it straight out doesn’t exist in Canada. That’s why this is happening, but even with a Second Amendment, constant vigilance has to be maintained, as we’ve long seen here. We didn’t get the NFA, the Gun Control Act, or the Brady Bill because the right didn’t exist, but because people were inclined to compromise in the name of safety, politics, or whatever else.
It’s just worse in Canada, because now they have nothing to fall back on.
Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
