Capitol Police Seize Open Carried…Guillotine!

We all know that D.C. is hell on gun rights. Even today, open carry isn’t really a good idea in the nation’s capital, which strikes me as more than a little ironic. The nation with the symbols of our freedoms is the place we have fewer freedoms than most parts of the country.

Still, it is what it is. You can’t open carry.

Not even a guillotine.

Now, we all know this was probably some intentionally threatening protest, the likes of which people on the left typically get away with and those on the right are demonized for engaging in.

Still, I’m more than a little tickled by this because of my sense of the absurd.

For one thing, the charge suggests that this was a working guillotine, not some guillotine-shaped prop. If that’s the case, what the hell? Surely Mr. Le wasn’t intending to behead public officials in the public square, was he? Does his name translate to Robespierre?

And then there’s the fact that concealed carry was never an option. “Is that a guillotine in your pocket or are you just really happy to see me?”

There’s no doubt this was intended as something of a threat, and that’s less than thrilling, but there’s also the bizarre idea that even an impractical “weapon” gets labeled that way by the authorities. Seriously, I didn’t know possession of a guillotine was illegal in the D.C. As a history nerd who is always a little likely to build something like this, it’s disturbing.

It’s also disturbing because this really isn’t an “offensive” weapon. It’s a method of execution, which is darker, but also less practical for crime. Can you imagine this guy trying to rob a liquor store with this? “Give me the money in the register, or I’ll tie your hands behind you and walk to outside to my guillotine!”

And if he was looking to hurt people, maybe it was the pedos whose names still haven’t been released from the Epstein files? If so, this isn’t protest, it’s public service.

I suppose trebuchets are completely out.

Again, my sense of the absurd loves this story so very much.

What I don’t love is that this is a criminal case. Yes, it can hurt and kill people. So can cars. They can even be used in a more offensive manner than a guillotine, which was likely intended in some act of protest, thus free speech.

That’s not a great look.

It’s possible that the story will go nowhere, that Mr. Le will be released and get his guillotine back, without charges be pursued, and he can make whatever statement he has to make and then drive his happy butt and his guillotine back to California. I suspect any statement will be one I disagree with, but that’s not the barrier for acceptance of free speech, even vaguely threatening free speech.

I suppose that the Founding Fathers probably weren’t thinking about guillotines when they ratified the Second Amendment, but since they didn’t exclude them from it, either, let the man have his overbuilt Slap Chop.

After all, I thought this was America. If we can’t do ridiculous things, up to and including carrying around a massive execution machine that was the symbol of The Terror in post-revolution France, then what freedoms do we really have?

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
