DC Gun Laws Under Fire Following Latest Assassination Attempt Against Trump

There’ve been enough assassination attempts against President Donald Trump–not just a couple of guys talking smack in a Waffle House, mind you, but real attempts–that it’s getting kind of sad. The fact that none of these guys are time travelers, though, makes me feel a lot better. (IYKYK)
But the latest wasn’t at some speech in a field, or on a wide-open golf course. It was a hotel ballroom where the bad guy got surprisingly close, though not close enough, thankfully.
While the Secret Service is facing renewed scrutiny over its handling of security, the laws in the District of Columbia are also taking a beating.
Washington already has the kind of gun laws they keep demanding for the rest of the country. D.C. law generally requires firearms to be registered. No person or organization in the district may possess or control a firearm without a valid registration certificate, subject to limited exceptions. D.C. law also makes it illegal to carry a pistol openly or concealed in the district without a D.C. carry license.
So what exactly did those laws stop?
They did not stop a determined attacker from showing up armed. They did not stop him from trying to get past security. They did not stop the first shot. What stopped him, according to the available reporting, was not a registration certificate, a carry ban, a waiting period, or a background check. It was armed people already on scene, ready to meet violent force with immediate force.
Gun control advocates treat the law-abiding citizen as the problem because the law-abiding citizen is the only person their laws can reliably control. The criminal who is willing to commit attempted murder, attack federal officers, or target a public event is not deterred by a paperwork requirement.
If the suspect purchased firearms legally in California, then he already passed through the very system gun control activists claim will prevent these attacks.
California’s gun laws did not stop him. D.C.’s gun laws did not stop him. Armed, prepared people did.
Bingo.
See, with all of the gun control laws on the books, both in California and DC, the reality is that if someone wants to try and take another’s life, those laws will not stop them.
The president has some of the best-trained armed security in the world looking out for him. Folks like you and me don’t. We can’t afford to outsource our security. We have to DIY it.
Gun control laws don’t stop these bad people; they stop us. They keep us from obtaining the means of protecting ourselves and our families.
And since most of the homicides each year are people who aren’t rich, famous, and powerful, it seems like we’re in a lot more need than those folks are.
President Trump is an exception, obviously, since this keeps happening to him, but most of those who think they should be the exceptions because of who they are aren’t really in that much danger.
It’s people like us who have to live and work in the real world who are.
The gun laws that stop millions from doing just that failed to stop this would-be assassin.
Something the other side of this debate really needs to sit and think about.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
