Illinois Really Seems to Enjoy Getting Sued

s I write this, the state of Illinois is being sued over its FOID requirement. It’s not even a permit-to-purchase requirement, which is bad enough, but an ID required just to own a firearm for the rest of the time it’s yours. It’s stupid, and the lawsuit is deserved. The thing is, though, I think state officials have some kind of fetish about seeing their state facing lawsuits. It’s why they keep doing things they know will result in legal action.

And the latest is a continuing decision to consider a bill that would essentially ban Glocks, probably the most popular handgun model in the entire country.

Now, Illinois could be poised to embrace another gun control measure and become the next state to pass legislation targeting Glocks after Connecticut recently passed a similar measure into law. Democrats hold a supermajority in the Illinois legislature, making the blue state far more amenable to such measures.

Democratic state Rep. Justin Slaughter spearheaded the Illinois legislation, House Bill 4471, which would make the firing mechanism design of Glock guns illegal. The bill seeks to ban the sale of any semiautomatic pistol with a cruciform trigger bar, due to concerns that the weapon could be altered to install a switch that turns a pistol into a machine gun.

Such switches are already illegal in Illinois, as they are in Connecticut, where Gov. Ned Lamont (D-CT) signed the “Glock switch bill” into law in late May. But Illinois lawmakers are under intense pressure from gun control groups such as Everytown for Gun Safety to pass the bill, citing fears that criminals are using cheap conversion devices to turn pistols into machine guns within minutes.

Also, as we know, there are remarkably few fatalities that result from firearms equipped with such switches, despite their supposed prevalence on our streets. So while these things are scary, they’re both illegal at the federal level and at the state level in many places, and they’re not nearly as common as the anti-gunners and their media buddies want us to believe.

The moment Illinois passes this—and I’m sure they will, either this year or next—it will trigger a lawsuit. That’s because there’s literally no mechanism in the history, text, or tradition of this country that would justify such a ban.

Especially when you consider the whole “in common use” thing. I don’t agree with it, but it’s there, and it’s something the courts are going to consider, and Glocks are stupidly popular and have been for years. There’s no way it doesn’t fall under “in common use,” no matter how stupidly you try to twist that phrase.

So, the only logical conclusion I can come up with is that they get some kind of thrill over being served. It’s like a night at the strip club for them or something. They so enjoy it.

Yeah, I made it weird, but they started it by being so weird about guns that they’ll ban an entire manufacturer’s catalog because of a third-party designed and built device that Glock had absolutely nothing to do with.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
